About Allied

During World War II, Max Vatan, an intelligence officer with a British commando unit, travels to North Africa to join forces with Marianne Beauséjour, a fearless French Resistance fighter on a dangerous mission behind enemy lines. They pull off a tense operation using disguises and precise timing, relying on shared nerves and quick thinking to outsmart a deadly adversary. The mission bonds them, and their affection follows when they reunite in wartime London, where a domestic life begins against the backdrop of air raids and constant uncertainty. As the strain of invisible enemies grows, the couple must deal with suspicion that their love might be compromised by loyalties to country and a shadowy war machine that tests the couple's loyalties.

Directed by Robert Zemeckis and released in 2016, Allied draws from an original screenplay by Steven Knight rather than a specific novel or play. Brad Pitt stars opposite Marion Cotillard, with Jared Harris and Lizzy Caplan in key supporting roles.

The film grossed about 119.5 million dollars worldwide against a production budget of 106 million. It opened to mixed reviews but drew audiences curious to see a romance set against a tense World War II espionage backdrop in North America.

The film's polished period look and restrained emotional tone contributed to a late 2010s trend of glossy wartime romances. While none of its moments became standard pop culture references, Cotillard and Pitt sparked discussion about trust under pressure and the moral weight of choices made far from home for fans.

Critics praised the performances and production values, while some noted pacing and tonal shifts. The movie probes how love survives in a climate of suspicion, the sense of duty that can blur personal loyalties, and the cost of deception in a world at war, and lasting questions about loyalty today.
