About Argevollen
The series is set in a world torn by a long, grinding war between Arandas and Ingelmia. Tokimune is a young soldier in Independent Unit 8 who rescues a wounded foreign woman named Jamie during a frontline skirmish. To stay alive he becomes the pilot of Argevollen, a next-generation combat frame whose U-Link system bonds to a single operator, matching the machine to the pilot's mental model. Piloting Argevollen means imagining maneuvers and intent, rather than manipulating conventional controls, and that mental link shapes how battles play out, how trust forms among crewmates, and how responsibility looks under constant conflict.
Argevollen premiered in 2014 as an original TV anime created by Y0c1e, Kotomi Fukugawa and KOTOKO. The show features voice work from Hiroshi Tsuchida, Sayaka Ohara, Saori Onishi and Ryota Osaka, and it was presented as a straight-to-television project rather than a manga or novel adaptation.
The series did not collect major industry awards or widely reported nominations. It maintained a low profile in mainstream award circuits and didn’t accumulate notable trophies, remaining more visible within niche fan circles than on prize lists.
Elements of Argevollen resonated with mecha fans, especially the U-Link idea where a machine mirrors a pilot's psyche, and the bespoke aesthetic of the Argevollen frame led to fan art and online discussion. Despite that, the show didn’t permeate broader pop culture and tends to be remembered mainly by genre specialists and collectors rather than casual anime viewers.
Reaction to Argevollen was mixed to lukewarm, reflected in a modest 4.545/10 user score from a small number of votes. Viewers who appreciated it pointed to its exploration of the psychological bond between pilot and weapon, and its focus on the moral costs of prolonged warfare. Critics and many fans faulted uneven pacing and shallow secondary character development, which limited its appeal beyond a core mecha audience.
