Returning to his old hometown, Saku Oyagi enrolls at Soei High to restart his schooling and salvage a sense of place. On day one he crosses paths with a childhood friend, Mihoshi Akeno, a second year who still adores the stars. At Mihoshi's coaxing, Saku agrees to join the school's astronomy club, hoping to find focus and a spark for the future. Soon another student, Hime Makita, enters the club with a different motive - to win Saku's attention. Over the course of the school year, the six members of the Soei High Astronomy Club face exams, friendships, setbacks, and small triumphs, using the night sky as a lens on their growing identities and how they relate to one another.
