About ATRI -My Dear Moments-
When Natsuki Ikaruga returns to his coastal hometown after years away, he finds it partly submerged and empty of family. He carries the physical and emotional scars of loss, including the death of his mother and the loss of a leg, plus the inheritance of his oceanologist grandmother's ship, submarine, and debts. A suspicious debt collector named Catherine offers him a risky chance to salvage his grandmother's ruined lab in search of rumored treasure. Instead of riches, the salvage yields Atri, a sleeping, humanlike robot whose emotions and mannerisms blur the line between machine and person. The story follows Natsuki as his guarded world opens, and he and Atri negotiate memory, responsibility, and what a future can mean in a flooded world.
Released in 2024, the series was created by Jukki Hanada and Asta Konno and features voice work by Kensho Ono, Hikaru Akao, Minami Takahashi, Yoshimasa Hosoya, and Yoko Hikasa, giving the characters distinct personalities through nuanced performances.
As of its initial run there were no major industry awards attached to the series. That status might change as the show reaches broader audiences and future awards seasons, but at release no high-profile wins or nominations have been reported.
Critics and viewers have responded favorably, reflected in a vote average of 7.429 out of 10 from listed ratings. Reviews tend to highlight the show's emotional center, its meditation on grief and recovery, and its questions about identity and personhood in artificial beings. The mix of quiet character scenes with occasional action sequences gives it emotional contrast and thematic focus.
The image of partially submerged towns and the gentle, expressive portrayal of Atri have sparked conversation among fans about robot empathy and what makes someone human. Fans have shared artwork and essays about the series' imagery, and Atri in particular has become a touchpoint for online discussion about warmth in artificial life and the ethics of memory and care.
