About Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple
An unseen catastrophe blankets the globe as a strange mist appears and several ability users turn up dead in what looks like suicides. The Armed Detective Agency is drawn into the murky pattern, following a trail that points to a single enigmatic force. An unknown power user nicknamed Collector appears to be pulling the strings behind the killings, a figure with the means to bend the citywide danger to his own ends. To stop the spread and protect Yokohama, the Agency teams up with the Port Mafia in an uneasy pact. Together they chase clues through glittering streets and dark alleys, facing a danger bigger than any one group can handle. As threats converge, the public fear grows, and the line between friend and foe blurs in the search for answers.
Directed by Takuya Igarashi, the film arrived in 2018 as the franchise's first full length cinematic entry. It adapts the Bungo Stray Dogs manga by Kafka Asagiri and Sango Harukawa. The production preserves the series' dark wit and literary nods.
Worldwide box office stood at roughly 2.37 million dollars, a modest figure for a feature film yet enough to signal solid fan engagement beyond Japan. The release helped expand the series' international footprint and drew in anime enthusiasts worldwide.
Memorable moments come from the clash of the Armed Detective Agency with the Port Mafia and from how the story weaves real life authors into its world. The film reinforces the franchise's mix of literature minded characters and supernatural abilities, a tone fans expect. It also sparked discussions about adaptation choices and character arcs outside the main series.
Critical response highlights the animation quality, brisk action, and the performances of Kensho Ono as Akutagawa and Mamoru Miyano as Dazai. The film probes trust and loyalty under pressure, while examining how power reshapes friendship and choice. Most reviewers note the animation and sound design heighten tension in key confrontations.
