About Can It Be Love
Dave and Tim head for the ultimate spring break, expecting sun, parties, and the kind of mischief that makes for unforgettable nights. Before they reach the beach they lose everything that matters for a carefree vacation, including their car, cash, and room. Just when it looks like the plan has collapsed, a striking private investigator shows up with a strange assignment: watch fifty sorority sisters and identify the one with a hidden birthmark. The duo accepts, hoping the pay and perks will sort them out, and what follows is a string of misread signals, awkward encounters, and escalating stunts as the deadline closes in and the reward proves far more complicated than they imagined.
Directed by Peter Maris and released in 1992, the movie was created by Hersh Rephun and Bill Milling. The cast includes Charles Klausmeyer as Tim, Richard Beaumont as David, Jennifer Langdon as Jesse, Maryann Mixon as Lisa, and Blake Pickett as Dyanne, all working within the low budget, indie comedy style common to early 90s beach films.
The film did not receive major awards or nominations, and it wasn't part of any notable festival circuit. There are no Oscar, Golden Globe, or Emmy mentions tied to the title, and its recognition has stayed limited to small audience circles.
The movie left only a faint mark on pop culture, mostly as a footnote among beach party comedies of its era. It occasionally appears on lists of cheesy spring break films and is remembered by a few viewers for its over-the-top gags and era-specific wardrobe. It never produced a widely quoted line or an iconic scene that crossed into mainstream awareness.
Critical and audience response has been largely negative, reflected in a low user score and sparse reviews. Viewers who watch it today will find broad slapstick, raunchy humor, and a focus on fantasy scenarios more than character depth. Themes include frat boy excess, mistaken identity, and the commodification of desire, which modern viewers may find dated or problematic, though some fans value it for its unapologetically silly tone.
