About Chinese Paladin 3
Jing Tian is a young man who wants to become a paladin of the Mt. Shu Sect. When the Sect decides to seal the dangerous Shu Yao Pagoda, he joins Tang Xuejian, the reserved scholar Xu Changqing and a small group of allies to locate five mystical pearls required for the ritual. Their search sends them across lawless borderlands, haunted sites and rival strongholds, while friendships form and old grudges resurface. Alongside monster fights and swordplay, personal histories and secret identities complicate every step. The series keeps the focus on teamwork, romance and moral choices as the team pieces together the pagoda's past and the true cost of protective magic. Smaller subplots involve family legacies, rival sect politics and betrayal.
Released in 2009, Chinese Paladin 3 was directed by Leung Sing-Kuen and created by Kwok-Lap Lee. The TV adaptation features Hu Ge, Yang Mi, Wallace Huo, Liu Shishi and Tang Yan as part of the larger Chinese Paladin franchise.
Chinese Paladin 3 did not collect major international awards, yet it attracted attention at regional television events and among genre fans. Crucially, the series helped raise the profiles of its lead actors, notably Hu Ge, Yang Mi and Wallace Huo, who moved on to higher-profile projects in Asia.
As a late-2000s fantasy drama, it reinforced interest in xianxia and fantasy romance on television, attracting a strong fanbase for its characters and pairings. Costumes, soundtrack moments and the young cast's chemistry helped the show remain a reference point among fans. It also helped launch online fan communities and cosplay.
Critics and viewers praised the mix of romance, action and supernatural elements, while some noted uneven pacing and familiar genre tropes. On user platforms it holds a 7.9/10 average from 42 votes. The story emphasizes duty, identity, sacrifice and shifting loyalties across its episodes, and younger viewers especially responded.
