In Zamunda a young prince named Akeem is restless with a life of ceremonial duties and arranged marriage. He decides to seek a bride on his own terms, outside the palace walls. With his loyal aide Semmi, he travels to New York to explore real life beyond royal privilege. Disguised as a humble immigrant, Akeem takes on odd jobs and learns to ride the subway, handle customer service, and share meals with strangers.
