Set in the Zhenyuan era, Fangs of Fortune opens when the Bai Ze goddess, guardian of human and demon realms, dies by accident and demon beasts flood the land. To manage the chaos, a demon leader named Zhu Yan takes the guise of Zhao Yuanzhou and proposes a demon-hunting bureau as a show of good faith. Wen Xiao distrusts Zhao from the start, but she signs on and recruits her childhood friend Zhuo Yichen, master archer Pei Sijing, and the shy but brilliant doctor Bai Jiu. Together they track monsters drawn from The Classic of Mountains and Seas while peeling back conspiracies that tie the calamity to human ambition. Investigations touch palace intrigue and ancient rites, exposing fragile alliances.
