Set in 1980s Rome, Fuori follows the late Goliarda Sapienza after her ambitious novel The Art of Joy is rejected by the publishing world. Facing a moral crisis, she pulls off a risky theft that shatters her standing in society. Sent to Italy's largest women's prison, she encounters a hard-edged circle of inmates and outcasts who challenge her view of herself. When she leaves, she keeps meeting with these women and, during a blistering summer, an intense friendship begins to bloom. The bond rekindles her appetite for life and renews her drive to write, pushing her toward new possibilities.
