About Get Carter
Jack Carter, a hard edged mob enforcer living in Las Vegas, is pulled back to his Seattle roots when his brother dies and a funeral brings out old grievances. The homecoming lands him in a murky crossfire of loyalties, debts, and hidden agendas. As he moves through the citys shadowy corners, Carter discovers that his brothers death may not be what it seems and he begins to suspect foul play. He digs into a maze of crooked cops, rival gangsters, and family secrets, chasing clues that point toward people who are supposed to be on his side. The line between ally and enemy blurs as danger closes in and the body count ticks upward. The city and its shadows weigh on him.
Directed by Stephen Kay, Get Carter is a 2000 remake that adapts Ted Lewiss novel and nods to the 1971 film. It stars Sylvester Stallone as Jack Carter with Miranda Richardson, Rachael Leigh Cook, Alan Cumming and Mickey Rourke in roles.
The movie grossed about 19.4 million worldwide on a budget of around 63.6 million, a modest showing in comparison to Studio expectations and typical big screen crime dramas. Its reception reflected the difficulty of reimagining a classic.
There were no major nominations for Get Carter, and it did not win notable industry honors. It is not typically cited in year end lists or as part of the conversation around Stallones award history.
Reception and themes: Critics offered mixed takes on the remake, praising Stallone's tough performance in a lean crime drama while noting an uneven tone and a sense of deja vu for fans of the original. The film probes loyalty and the cost of violence, showing how vendettas ripple through families and communities. It balances kinetic action with noir mood, though some viewers felt the screenplay couldn't sustain its pace.
