After a global financial collapse, nations have shifted into an AI-managed "sustainable war" economy where conflicts are kept ongoing to stabilize markets. Public Security Section 9, led by Major Motoko Kusanagi, returns to handle the new cyber threats that arise when autonomous systems, augmented humans, and shadowy corporations collide. The team, including Batou, Togusa, Ishikawa, and Saito, runs covert operations that mix hacking, infiltration, and field combat as they try to keep a fragile peace while questions about identity, control, and the value of human life grow louder. The show keeps its mysteries intact without revealing major plot twists.
