About Happy Kanako's Killer Life
Kanako Nishino is a mild-mannered office worker who accidentally signs up for what she thinks is a normal job, only to discover the agency hires assassins. Surprising herself and her co-workers, she proves unusually effective at taking out targets, which upends her quiet life and creates awkward new routines. Her attempts to fit in lead to clumsy training sessions, botched deliveries, and an odd mix of everyday paperwork with lethal errands. Meanwhile, Sakurai, a prickly and attractive colleague, won’t give her the respect she wants, and Kanako keeps wondering why regular office problems haven’t disappeared just because her coworkers carry guns.
Directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa and created by Toshiya Wakabayashi, the series premiered in 2025. The cast features Non as Kanako Nishino, Taisuke Fujigaya as Sakurai, Yuma Yamoto as Kazuo Takehara, with Hirona Yamazaki and Yuuka Sugai in supporting roles.
As of now the show hasn’t picked up major industry awards or high-profile nominations, but it has drawn attention within genre circles and from international streaming audiences.
Critics and viewers have reacted warmly to the tonal mix, with an 8.2/10 audience vote average from early ratings. Reviews often point to the way it balances workplace comedy, action set pieces, and quieter personal moments, while keeping the lead sympathetic and oddly competent. Themes focus on identity at work, awkward office romance, competence versus perception, and the moral weight of violence delivered with a wink.
Despite being new, the series has sparked conversations online about genre mashups and character-driven dark comedy. Fans post artwork and short clips highlighting the funniest misfires and the most stylish action beats, and creators on social platforms discuss how a slice-of-office-life vibe can sit alongside hitman tropes without losing either tone.
