Heavenly Ghost Catcher reimagines the legend of Zhong Kui as a TV anthology set across five main story arcs, each mixing folklore, court intrigue, and the supernatural. Jin Chao-Chun stars as the titular ghost catcher, a figure who is granted the authority to punish evil spirits and right mortal injustices. Across episodes titled Yang Guifei, Zhong Kui meets Justice Bao, The Secret of the Goblet, Beauty from Jiangshan and Snow in June, he investigates wrongful deaths, confronts malevolent forces and partners with earthly officials. The show balances courtroom-style investigations and ghostly encounters, keeping focus on moral consequences rather than shocking reveals.

Released in 1994, the series was a Singapore and Taiwan television co-production that assembled a cast of well known actors from both markets, including Hung-Hsuan Fan, Cynthia Khan, Ruby Lin and Sun Xing, with Jin Chao-Chun in the lead role.
