Hidalgo

Set in 1890, Frank Hopkins, a veteran Pony Express rider, seeks to prove his reputation by entering a brutal desert race with Hidalgo, a stubborn mustang. They travel to Arabia to compete for a life changing prize. The Ocean of Fire spans vast deserts, scorching heat, and perilous dunes, testing horse and rider to their limits. Along the way they meet Jazira, a skilled desert rider who helps them understand a culture that views outsiders with caution. The trek becomes a rigorous proving ground that forges trust between unlikely partners as they push toward the distant finish line.

Along the way Hopkins learns the value of trust, humility and the bonds that form between two unlikely partners.

Directed by Joe Johnston, Hidalgo adapts John Fusco's adventure for the big screen and is based on his story inspired by real life legends. The 2004 Disney film stars Viggo Mortensen as Hopkins with Omar Sharif among the cast.

Hidalgo lives in the mid range of family adventure films and is remembered for its desert vistas and cross cultural exchange. It presents an American hero learning from Arabian riders, confronting stereotypes, and earning respect through grit and cooperation rather than brute force.
