In the wake of World War II, Norwegian adventurer Thor Heyerdahl dreams of proving a theory about ancient contact between South America and Polynesia. To test it, he and a small team build a raft from balsawood and set off into the Pacific. The mission is equal parts science project and survival challenge, a leap of faith that depends on stubborn resolve, minimalist gear, and precise seamanship.
