About Kung Fu Panda 3
Po and his adoptive father travel to a hidden panda village so Po can reconnect with his roots, but their peaceful visit is interrupted when an ancient spirit warrior named Kai begins stealing the chi of kung fu masters across China. With the balance of skill and safety threatened, Po leaves his teaching role to assemble an unlikely force, blending his Furious Five allies with new panda recruits to stand against Kai. Along the way Po grapples with leadership, legacy and what it means to protect others, mixing slapstick and serious moments as he learns how family and identity shape his role in the wider world, while the Valley of Peace awaits the outcome.
Released in 2016, Kung Fu Panda 3 was co-directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni, with story credits to Glenn Berger, Jonathan Aibel and Fei Chen. It continues the animated saga of Po, again returning the original voice actors.
It proved a strong box office performer, drawing large audiences worldwide and reinforcing the franchise's commercial appeal. Overseas markets were a particular strength, and the film's financial success helped secure further sequels and related projects within the series, moving forward.
Po's comic timing and heartfelt personality kept him a recognizable animated hero, with the movie adding new panda characters that fans embraced. Elements of its fight choreography and humor turned up in memes and references, and the film helped cement the franchise as a touchstone of family animation still today.
Critical response was mixed to positive, with a 6.923/10 average from 6,407 votes reflecting audience appreciation for its humor and action alongside some criticism of familiarity. Reviewers and viewers noted themes of family, identity and mentorship, as Po balances playful comedy with moments that emphasize legacy and belonging, as well.
