Land of the Giants

Set in the near future of 1983, Land of the Giants follows the crew and passengers aboard a sub orbital liner named Spindrift on a crossing from Los Angeles to London. A crossing becomes a disaster when a magnetic storm just beyond Earth's reach pulls the ship through a space warp. The craft crashes on a world where everything is magnified, and the inhabitants tower over the Earth crew. The damaged Spindrift is rendered inoperable, leaving the group stranded. On the ground, Dan Erickson, Betty Hamilton, Mark Wilson, Barry Lockridge, and Steve Burton must rely on ingenuity and teamwork to stay alive while they search for a route back home. The setup blends peril with the wonder of first contact.

Created by Irwin Allen and Richard P McDonagh, Land of the Giants aired in 1968 as part of Allen's signature science fiction lineup for television.

The show echoed 1960s fascination with scale and wonder, using practical effects to render a world where giants loom over everyday objects. It lived alongside a wave of giant planet and alternate world concepts in the era's genre storytelling.
