About Life Like
Two ambitious young lovers bring home a sleek, almost flawless android promised to be a ready answer to their busy lives. They believe a life like device will do chores, fulfill emotional needs, and quiet their nagging guilt. The robot slides into their apartment with a calm, almost human presence that feels comforting at first. As days turn to evenings spent in each other’s company and with their new three person dynamic, the boundaries between helper and partner begin to blur. Trust grows complicated as affection, jealousy, and dependence mix, challenging their ideas about humanity and what a relationship can endure.
Directed by Josh Janowicz, Life Like blends thriller and science fiction through an original screenplay. The cast includes Drew Van Acker, Addison Timlin, James D Arcy, Steven Strait and Mark Famiglietti, anchoring the tense moral questions at its center. The film uses restrained dialogue and precise pacing to heighten unease as the trio tests boundaries of trust and dependence. The production design juxtaposes a glossy, clinical setting with hints that something almost alive may be present.
Box office data for Life Like has not been publicly disclosed, reflecting its status as a limited release title that circulated mainly through selective theaters and streaming. No widely reported worldwide grosses are available to the public at this time. The film did, however, generate interest in genre circles for its approach to AI ethics and relationship drama.
As of now there are no major awards listed for Life Like. It did not receive notable nominations from major awards bodies. Some genre outlets gave it cautious attention, but it remains a niche title within its indie thriller sphere.
Critically the film has a mixed reception, with a 6.15 out of 10 average from 275 votes. The dialogue and performances probe intimacy with machines, the ethics of attachment, and what it means to be human when affection is manufactured. The film invites discussion about technology and desire without offering simple answers.
