As a child Riki Naoe was left alone after his parents died, sinking into hopelessness until a scrappy group of friends called the Little Busters showed up and brought play back into his days. Their roughhousing and steady companionship slowly eased his grief, and by his second year of high school that bond has stuck. The friends still spar, hang out and share a house, keeping school life loud and often silly, while quieter moments remind them and the viewer why those connections matter, without revealing any major twists that unfold later in the series.

Released in 2012, the TV version was created by Michiru Shimada and features an established voice cast, including Yui Horie as Riki Naoe, Tomoe Tamiyasu as Rin Natsume, Hikaru Midorikawa as Kyousuke Natsume, Nobutoshi Canna as Masato Inohara, and Yusei Oda as Kengo Miyazawa.
