About Marvel's Daredevil
Blind since childhood, Matt Murdock grew up with senses far sharper than anyone around him, and he uses those gifts in two very different ways. By day he works as a tenacious lawyer in Hell's Kitchen, defending clients who often can't get a fair shake. By night he becomes Daredevil, a masked vigilante who hunts the criminals that slip through the legal system, putting him at odds with both the law and the city's underworld. The series watches how that split life wears on his friendships with Foggy and Karen, and on his moral code, as a powerful adversary rises and the cost of violent justice keeps growing.
Marvel's Daredevil premiered on Netflix in 2015, developed for television by Drew Goddard and drawn from the Marvel Comics characters created by Bill Everett and Stan Lee. Produced for streaming by Marvel Television, it launched a darker, street-level chapter of Marvel adaptations.
The show received attention from television and genre award groups, earning nominations and a number of wins for stunt coordination, makeup, and technical craft. Critics and industry organizations highlighted its action sequences and strong performances, even if it didn't dominate mainstream award shows.
Its gritty tone and intense action left a mark on how TV treats comic book heroes. The long, single-take hallway fight became shorthand for cinematic TV action, and Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin is often pointed to as a modern TV villain. Charlie Cox's take on Matt Murdock proved enduring enough that the character continued to resonate with fans beyond the original Netflix run.
Critics and audiences generally praised the series, reflected in an 8.2/10 user vote average. Reviewers singled out the moral ambiguity at its core, the clash between legal ethics and vigilantism, and the show's use of sound and choreography to convey Matt's sensory world. It's a darker, character-driven approach to superhero storytelling that focuses on consequence as much as spectacle.
