About Me and the Alien MuMu
MuMu is a catlike alien who arrives on Earth to study human home appliances, aiming to recover technology his species has lost. Sakurako Umeyashiki, an ordinary university student, wakes up to find this inquisitive visitor living in her place, and her daily routine collapses into chaotic mishaps. The pair's domestic life turns into episode after episode of misinterpreted gadgets, improvised repairs, and oddball experiments that attract friends and neighbors into the fray. Akihiro, Miwa, and the enigmatic Decimal add to the confusion, and what starts as strange cohabitation slowly builds into genuine camaraderie. He acts like a curious pet and tinkers with appliances constantly.
Premiering in 2025, Me and the Alien MuMu was created by Keiichiro Ochi as an original animated TV series. It features voices by Momo Harumi, Etsuko Kozakura, Yasuyuki Kase, Gakuto Kajiwara, and Yuriko Hibi, and aired in Japan that year.
As of its 2025 release the show has not received major industry awards or high-profile nominations. It's early in awards cycles, and official recognition remains limited, with attention coming mainly from fan discussions, community polls, and early-year anime roundups rather than formal prize lists, as critics follow its later seasons.
Early audience reaction highlights MuMu's quirky design and kitchen-centered humor, which has sparked fan sketches and memes. The show's mix of domestic sight gags and sci-fi oddities is resonating with viewers who enjoy slice-of-life comedy with a surreal twist, and it's inspiring casual cosplay and themed fan projects online regularly.
Critical response has been modest but favorable, the show holding a 7.7/10 average from a small number of votes. Its humor centers on appliance obsession, the gap between alien logic and human routine, friendship, and the inventive use of everyday objects. Viewers also praise the character chemistry and playful animation.
