About Mummies Alive!
Mummies Alive follows four ancient guardians who are pulled from the dust of history to protect a reborn young Pharaoh in the present day. Once mighty Egypt's protectors, they must reconcile their old codes with a world that talks in cell phones and cars. Pressley, Ja Kai, Rath and Nefertina awaken with superhuman abilities and a shared vow to guard the Pharaoh's spirit as it grows into a living power. They juggle peril, comedy, and the occasional culture clash as they hunt down schemes that threaten their charge. Through teamwork and stubborn loyalty, they learn how courage travels across centuries and cities, and test the bonds that hold them together.
Created by Seth Kearsley, Steven Melching and Mark Edward Edens, Mummies Alive arrived in 1997 as an animated series blending myth with modern day adventure. The voice cast includes Bill Switzer, Cree Summer, Scott McNeil and Dale Wilson, with dynamic action sequences throughout.
Though not a breakout global phenomenon, the series stands out for sending four mythic guardians into a neon city and letting action meet humor. Its blend of ancient symbols with everyday modern life fit the era's appetite for heroic teams negotiating culture shock.
Critics and fans praised its brisk pace and playful humor, while emphasizing themes of loyalty, teamwork and the tension between old world duty and new world freedom. The series used humor to soften peril and kept its heroes focused on protecting those they vow to guard. Its teamwork focus and light humor matched the Saturday morning vibe and reinforced a sense of mentorship through action.
Awards: There are no documented major nominations or wins for this series. It did receive some praise in fan circles for its originality, but it did not secure nominations from major industry bodies such as the Emmys or Annie Awards.
