Kyla makes a living tracing family lines, turning fragments of records into readable histories. When a new clue about her mother's extended family turns up, she and her sister head to Conifer to track down the people behind the papers. The town's old Christmas tree farm holds records, memories and a stubborn owner who doesn't welcome outsiders at first. As Kyla pieces together the past she also begins to warm to the farm, the community and the man who runs it, all while questions about identity and belonging start to feel closer to being answered.
