Louis Bloom is a restless, hungry man who buys a camera and discovers a new way to control a difficult life in grim Los Angeles. He stumbles into crime journalism, snatching footage of crashes and fires as they unfold and hawking it to a market hungry for sensationalism. He quickly learns the currency of fear and novelty, sharpening his methods and bending the line between observer and participant. He enlists Nina Romina, a veteran TV anchor, to polish his work and push it toward the most sensational end of the spectrum. As his drive becomes the engine of his craft, the city reveals a ruthless landscape where ambition trumps ethics.
