About Pyaar Ke Side Effects
Siddharth Bose is a Delhi-based DJ who lives with his mother and sister after their father left years earlier. When his sister marries and moves out, Siddharth keeps busy mixing tracks with his friend Nanoo. At a wedding where the Punjabi bride seems ill at ease, Siddharth accidentally crosses paths with Trisha Mallick, a woman expected to marry a high-profile CEO. Their brief meeting ends without fireworks, yet six months later they run into each other again in Mumbai. Attraction grows quickly, and the two begin sharing an apartment, testing social expectations and personal quirks, including Trisha's taller stature and Siddharth's laid-back approach to life. They juggle jobs, family expectations and awkward practicalities of cohabitation and everyday life.
Pyaar Ke Side Effects was released in 2006, written and directed by Saket Chaudhary. The Hindi-language romantic comedy stars Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat, with Ranvir Shorey in a key supporting role, bringing urban dating to a mainstream audience nationwide.
The film had a moderate theatrical run in India and did not claim blockbuster status. It found a steady following through television broadcasts and home video, where repeated viewings helped the film reach a broader urban audience in later years.
Critics and viewers gave the movie a mixed to positive response, reflected in its 6.132/10 user rating. The story balances humor with relationship realism, addressing live-in relationships, modern dating anxieties and class expectations, while relying on chatty dialogue and situational comedy rather than melodrama and some memorable supporting performances too.
The movie helped normalize conversations about living together in urban Indian cinema, with a few lines and scenes that stayed in public memory. Mallika Sherawat's bold persona and the film's light tone contributed to its recognition as part of early 2000s romcom trend among metropolitan audiences in urban India especially.
