About Rags

Charlie Prince is a practical dreamer, living under the thumb of a sharp tongued stepfather while sharing a cramped house with his spoiled, braggy stepbrothers. He sings in secret, writing tunes that fuse street grit with hopeful melody, hoping one break will lift him out of hardship. On the other side of town, Kadee Worth is the globetrotting daughter of a powerful music impresario, Reginald Worth. She is famous for performing other people's hits, yet privately she resents wearing what others pick and singing songs she doesn’t feel connected to. When their paths cross in a city studio, Charlie and Kadee discover a shared hunger for real artistic control and an audience that listens. They team up for a chance at real voice and real connection. Together they face the glare of fame and the cost of artistic control.

Directed by Bille Woodruff, Rags was brought to life from an original screenplay by Jason Fuchs with Hilary Galanoy and Elizabeth Hackett, positioned as a modern music driven musical drama for television, weaving pop performances with a coming of age vibe.

As a television movie, Rags did not post a traditional theatrical box office and specific grosses were not publicly reported. Its distribution came through ABC Family, targeting a younger audience rather than theatrical markets.

Outside its core fan base, the film left a modest cultural footprint. It rode the early 2010s wave of singing and dancing teen stories, with Keke Palmer and Max Schneider drawing audiences, but it didn’t generate enduring catchphrases or widely cited scenes.

Critics noted the film's brisk energy, strong vocal performances and the clear line between showbiz pressure and personal integrity. It explores aspiration, collaboration and the pull of independence, portraying two young artists who must choose between commercial rewards and staying true to their own music. The friendship between Charlie and Kadee anchors the story.
