About Reaper
Sam Oliver is a twenty-one-year-old underachiever who discovers a family secret that flips his life upside down: his parents sold his soul to the Devil before he was born. Instead of dying or being damned right away, Sam gets a job he never asked for, hunting supernatural runaways that have escaped from Hell. With two best friends, Sock and Ben, and his ex Andi tangled in the mess, he tries to juggle work at a local appliance store, college aspirations, and the Devil's increasingly demanding list of recovered souls. The show balances dark stakes with sharp humor as Sam adapts to this bizarre obligation and the consequences it brings. He soon faces hard choices that test his loyalties and ethics.
Premiering in 2007 on The CW, Reaper was created by Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas. The series ran two seasons, blending comedy, drama, and supernatural fantasy in an episodic format. It debuted in fall 2007 and ran for two seasons.
Though it never became a mainstream juggernaut, Reaper developed a devoted cult following, remembered for Ray Wise's affable, snarling Devil and its blend of workplace comedy with demonic capers. Fans still recommend it as a standout underrated 2000s genre series. Ray Wise's Devil remains a standout element for many viewers.
Critical response was generally positive, noting strong cast chemistry, sharp dialogue, and an even mix of humor and stakes; audience ratings reflect that, with a 7.017/10 average from 209 votes. The series probes responsibility, moral gray areas, and the costs of adulthood through its supernatural setup.
The series didn't collect major industry awards during its run, and it wasn't a frequent awards contender. Still, it earned steady critical appreciation and passionate viewer support, with fans campaigning for renewals and keeping the show's reputation alive long after broadcasts ended. Over time.
