About Rise of the Legend
In the twilight of the Qing dynasty, corruption gnaws at the imperial court and spills into every corner of daily life. A fearsome crime lord known as Lei Gong leads the Black Tiger gang, trying to crush the Northern Sea's ruling faction. Fei, a bold young fighter, is recruited to level that rival by defeating its leader in a brutal confrontation. With the port under pressure and money changing hands behind closed doors, Fei discovers that loyalty and power are tangled in more ways than he imagined. When a new gang called the Orphans rises under Fei's childhood friend Huo, the balance of criminal force at the harbor shifts again, forcing all players to rethink their alliances and seek redemption.
Directed by Roy Chow Hin-Yeung, Rise of the Legend adapts a crime tale with martial flair. The screenplay comes from Christine To Chi-Long, and film features Eddie Peng as Fei, AngelaBaby as Orchid, alongside Sammo Hung and Tony Leung Ka-fai.
The film earned about 30.9 million dollars worldwide, a figure for a wuxia action drama from this collaboration. Its box office performance reflected a strong opening in Asian markets and steady interest, with star power and kinetic fights drawing audiences.
Critics noted a brisk pace and a willingness to blend political intrigue with street violence. The film probes loyalty versus ambition, the cost of authority, and how corruption reshapes communities. Performances by Eddie Peng and AngelaBaby anchor a cast that sells grit, with Sammo Hung adding weight as Master Lui.
After release, Rise of the Legend registered with genre fans and became a reference point for blending historical politics with martial action. Dialogues, a few set pieces and the distinctive costume design sparked chatter on social media, while fans cited the climactic street brawl as memorable in fan forums worldwide.
