About Security
On the edge of a worn down city, an ex special forces operative who has fallen on hard times takes a gig as a security guard at a decaying shopping center in a rough neighborhood. His first night spirals from routine duties into high stakes when a frightened young woman, desperate for shelter, appears seeking help after a police motorcade is hijacked to silence her. A ruthless hijacker and his crew close in, determined to erase the witness. With danger mounting, the veteran uses street savvy, quick thinking, and improvised tactics to protect the girl and survive the escalating threat. He improvises barriers from shelves and carts, using the mall's maze of corridors as a makeshift defense and guiding the girl toward safe rooms. He also tries to steady the terrified witness, aware that any mistake could cost them both.
Directed by Alain Desrochers and released in 2017, Security marks an action driven thriller built from an original screenplay by Tony Mosher and John Sullivan. It aims for a lean, no frills pace and keeps the focus tightly on the claustrophobic confrontation.
While it did not become a breakout cultural moment, the film delivers a tight mall siege vibe and features two veteran leads who lend credibility to a familiar premise. Banderas and Kingsley bring a disciplined presence that elevates tense scenes and keeps the stakes credible.
Critical response was mixed, with supporters praising the gritty atmosphere and solid performances while others called out conventional plotting. The movie probes loyalty, guilt, and moral lines in a pressure cooker setting, suggesting that survival sometimes pits protector instincts against hard choices.
Box office information is scarce due to a limited release, and the film did not become a major draw at theaters. When data exists, it points to modest earnings in select markets.
