About Sleepless
Vincent Downs is an undercover Las Vegas cop whose career has earned him more enemies than allies. On a night when a high stakes heist goes wrong, he and his colleagues become entangled in a web of corrupt officers and a casino underworld loyal to the mob. When gunmen abduct Downs's son, T, the clock starts ticking. With internal affairs closing in and every exit blocked, Downs must improvise a dangerous plan to locate the boy, outwit the kidnappers, and bring those responsible to justice before dawn. The case pulls in Jennifer Bryant, an Internal Affairs investigator who suspects the kind of corruption Downs has faced for years. One sleepless night, the pursuit becomes personal and relentless for everyone involved.
Directed by Baran bo Odar, Sleepless arrived in 2017 as a United States remake of the French thriller Sleepless Night from 2011. The project frames the action through a script by Andrea Berloff and Nicolas Saada, tuned to nocturnal Vegas.
The film grossed about 32.54 million worldwide against a 30 million budget, marking a modest but non spectacular return that fit its late night, one city push rather than a widescale hit, engineered for viewing and streaming, not a blockbuster.
Critics described the movie as a solid, conventional action thriller with taut chase sequences and a focus on loyalty and moral compromise amid police corruption and casino power. Some reviewers noted a familiar cadence in the script but praised pacing and the claustrophobic nocturnal atmosphere. Foxx anchors the film well.
Sleepless did not leave a lasting cultural footprint. It remains a competently produced B level thriller set in a slick Las Vegas world with a straightforward rescue narrative, appealing to genre fans but rarely cited in broader pop culture discussions or inspiring imitators. Its influence is practical rather than iconic.
