Set during the early 20th century, a middle aged lawyer named Fredrik Egerman lives with his much younger wife Anne, and their marriage has stalled. Fredrik’s son, still adjusting to his new stepmother, finds himself drawn to this complicated household. Desiree Armfeldt, a former lover of Fredrik, makes a public bet that she can seduce him during a weekend retreat where four couples gather. The gathering spirals into a maze of misread signals, flirtations, and mistaken intentions, with lovers swapping partners and shifting loyalties in a lively dance of wit and whimsy.
