About Spare Me, Great Lord!
Lü Shu is a frail teen who keeps life together for himself and his adoptive sister after their parents are gone, juggling a job with studies at a top high school. A car crash triggers dormant cultivation powers that cure his physical weakness, but he chooses to hide the change because cultivation remains mysterious and its practitioners face uncertain futures. At the same time an international watchdog group, Tian Luo Di Wang, starts shaping events at his school, and a special training program is set up under Xi Fei's influence. Lü Shu is pulled into that program, yet he keeps his abilities secret, because his power feeds on the negative emotions his actions provoke.
Released in 2021, the animated series was created by Hui Shuohua De Zhouzi and Yingge Yang. Voice talent includes Yang Tianxiang, Shuang Zhao, Nie Xiying, Ajie, and Liu Cong, and the show mixes school life with xianxia elements.
Critics and viewers gave it modestly positive responses, reflected in a 7.7/10 user score from 22 votes. Reviews tend to praise the inventive power concept and the contrast between everyday school scenes and supernatural stakes, while some note uneven pacing. Central themes include the ethics of power that depends on others' suffering, secrecy, and how institutions try to contain extraordinary abilities.
Among fans of animated cultivation stories the series sparked conversation for its unusual mechanic, where strength comes at an emotional cost to those around the protagonist. Its blend of humor, action, and moral tension made it a frequent topic on niche forums and fan groups, and it generated fan art and discussion threads focused on character dynamics and the show's moral questions.
To date the series has not earned recognition from major international award bodies, but it has attracted a growing fanbase interested in its moral complexity and genre mashup.
