About Tarzan & Jane
On the brink of their first anniversary, Jane wonders how to throw a celebration that feels elegant and quintessentially English, while life in the jungle keeps challenging her plans. She weighs tea etiquette, formal menus, and stylish décor against the sounds of the forest, the swing of vines, and Tarzan's more rough and ready sensibilities. Tarzan and Jane recruit friends from the camp, swapping clumsy missteps for practical jokes and teamwork. The result is a light hearted look at friendship, vows, and the push and pull between two very different cultures. The adventure stays playful and kid friendly throughout. Throughout, the film leans into light hearted comic moments, using Terk and a few jungle friends to keep the tone breezy.
Directed by Steve Loter, with direction by Don MacKinnon, Victor Cook and Lisa Schaffer, Tarzan & Jane is a direct-to-video entry that expands on Burroughs duo with material by Jess Winfield, voiced by Michael T. Weiss and Olivia D'Abo.
As a direct-to-video release, Tarzan & Jane did not see a theatrical run and reports no traditional box office figures. It was designed for home viewing on VHS and DVD, appealing to families and fans of the franchise.
This release sits on the fringes of the Tarzan franchise, with limited cultural reach beyond fans of Disney direct-to-video fare. It does feature familiar jokes about jungle life and a loyal cast including Terk, which fans associate with the era and style of early 2000s animated sequels.
Reception was generally modest, with viewers appreciating the chemistry between Tarzan and Jane and the family friendly tone. The story foregrounds teamwork, mutual respect, and adaptation, showing how two very different worlds can merge through dialogue, compromise, and shared vows, all set against humor and colorful jungle antics.
