About That '90s Show
Leia Forman arrives in Point Place for the summer of 1995 to stay with her grandparents, Kitty and Red, while her parents are away. She quickly hooks up with a fresh group of local teens, including Jay Kelso, Gwen Runck and other kids who have their own spins on mischief and romance. The show follows their afternoons at the Forman house and late nights around town, where 1990s music, fashion and crude humor shape a new generation's friendships and mistakes, all watched with a mix of amusement and exasperation by Kitty and Red.
Released in 2023, the series was created by Gregg Mettler alongside Bonnie Turner and Terry Turner, and it continues the world established by That '70s Show while bringing back Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp in their original roles.
The series didn't pick up major industry awards following its initial run, and it wasn't a major presence during awards season, so there aren't notable Emmy or Golden Globe wins tied to it.
That '90s Show stirred a lot of nostalgia, reigniting interest in its 1970s predecessor and prompting fans to compare the two eras. Its throwback soundtrack, 90s fashion callbacks and the return of familiar characters generated memes and conversation about how sitcoms age and how revivals should balance old viewers' expectations with new teen perspectives.
Critical and audience response has been mixed to mildly positive, reflected in an average user score around 6.8 out of 10 from several hundred votes. Reviewers often point to the chemistry between legacy cast and newcomers, the show's lighthearted take on teen life, and its reliance on wink-and-nod references. Main themes include generational clashes, growing up under overbearing relatives, and how pop culture gets recycled from one decade to the next.
