The Beast

Set during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, The Beast follows a tank crew trapped high in the rugged mountains after their mission derails under the command of a merciless officer. Cut off from command and supplies, they must cope with the desert cold, dwindling ammo, and shifting loyalties as they confront a determined Mujahadeen force. The story tracks how fear, authority, and survival instincts collide inside a claustrophobic turret and the surrounding terrain. With no easy answers, the men are forced to reckon with their own impulses as the war outside closes in.

Released in 1988, The Beast was directed by Kevin Reynolds with a screenplay by William Mastrosimone. The core ensemble includes George Dzundza, Jason Patric, Steven Bauer, Stephen Baldwin, and Don Harvey.
