With a dream of relief from the grind of a collapsing economy, the Brazilian government enacts a perpetual vertical isolation scheme that confines people over eighty in a closed colony. Teca is 77 and lives in Muriti, a river town in the Amazon, when officials suddenly lower the required age, threatening her future and that of her peers. Realizing the new rule could trap her forever, she slips away from the watch of soldiers and bureaucrats. A web of rivers, boats, and the city’s hidden networks becomes her route toward a final wish she refuses to abandon: to experience the sky from a plane, one last time.
