Xiao Mingming starts out as an avid reader of martial arts novels who slips into the role of Xiao Qiushui inside a richly imagined jianghu. Over the episodes he learns to weigh reputation against compassion, and his relationships with Xiao Xueyu, Liu Suifeng, Tang Fang, and Song Mingzhu force him to change in ways that test courage and conscience.
