About The Justice of Life
After the death of his fiancée, Ming Tin, a veteran triad figure, steps away from the underworld and starts a quiet life running a small mahjong parlor. He has turned his back on romance, believing it’s safer to live alone. But two very different women drift into his routine and challenge his resolve. He shares a crowded home with his mother, his uncle, and his cousin Gam Sui, and the two men are as close as brothers, even as Gam Sui’s father nurses a long running grudge against Ming Tin. When Gam Sui and his father blunder into trouble with the wrong crowd, Ming Tin leans on old connections to pull them back from danger and keep the family together.
Released in 1989, the show was directed by Lee Lik-Chi, Wang Guan-Hui, Zhong Cheng-Li, and Xiang Li-Hang. It was created by Sandy Shaw Lai-King, Mo Shu-E, and Chen Yu-Ping. The series blends witty banter with sharp social observation, a signature of its creators.
Set against 80s Hong Kong life, the show blends drama and comedy through a close knit family dynamic and a world where old loyalties collide with new temptations. The ensemble reads like a who's who of the era with Alex Man, Stephen Chow, Teresa Mo and Richard Ng.
Reception notes emphasize a tonal mix that balances grit with humor, letting character chemistry drive the story. The show tackles redemption, family duty, and the pull between a dangerous past and a safer future, anchored by a strong cast led by Alex Man and Stephen Chow, and a bold sense of humor.
Awards: There are no major nominations or wins listed for this series in the available data. While it features a star studded cast and strong performances, it does not appear to have received notable award recognition during its run.
