About The Little Flying Bears
Take a colorful slice of the imagination, where a tiny race of winged bears lives in a radiant forest that runs on cooperation rather than competition. The bears, joined by a close-knit circle of friends, shoulder the mission of keeping their home safe from pollution and careless fires. Their peace is routinely challenged by two crafty weasels, Skulk and Sammy, who scheme to mess with the forest's harmony. They occasionally solicit aid from Slink the snake. The schemes backfire, as the bears rally, guided by the wisdom of Plato the elder bear who can no longer fly and his owl friend Ozzy. The show blends gentle adventure with a clear message about caring for nature.
Created by Jean-Pierre Liccioni, Little Flying Bears premiered in 1990 as a kids show with voices by Walter Massey as Plato, Arthur Holden as Walt, Jessalyn Gilsig as Tina, Tedd Dillon as Josh, Pauline Little as Jasmine and Lotus.
The series earned modest attention for its gentle approach to environmental themes. Critics noted its cooperative community and clear message about avoiding pollution and protecting ecosystems, which makes the show suitable for younger viewers while sparking conversations about real world care for nature.
Though not a widely remembered title today, it sits among early 90s cartoons that linked adventure with eco education. Its winged bears and hopeful tone reflect a moment when children programming increasingly foregrounded environmental messages and community values, leaving a small but lasting imprint in archival traces.
