About The Marine 2
Joe Linwood is trying to relax with his wife at a tropical hotel when a violent team of militants overruns the property. With communications cut and the compound sealed, Joe draws on his Marine training and sniper skills to protect the guests and try to get his wife to safety. He moves through corridors and rooftops, improvising traps and picking off threats while the attackers tighten their grip. Tension builds in claustrophobic rooms and open courtyards alike, and the film keeps its focus on resourceful tactics, quick thinking, and the small-scale tactics one man can use against a well-armed force, all while civilian lives hang in the balance.
Directed by Roel Reiné and released in 2009, the film was written from a concept by Christopher Borrelli and John Chapin Morgan. It’s the second entry in The Marine series and stars Ted DiBiase Jr., with Michael Rooker in a supporting role.
The movie was distributed for the home video market rather than enjoying a wide theatrical run, so it didn’t register a notable box office haul. It reached audiences mainly through DVD, rental and digital platforms, where action fans could discover it outside theaters.
Critical reaction was mixed, reflected in an average user rating near 5.9 out of 10 from several hundred votes. Reviewers and viewers tended to praise the set-piece shooting scenes and brisk pacing, while noting the plot and character development stayed fairly thin. Key themes include duty, protective instinct, and the contrast between military skills and chaotic urban danger.
Among action-leaning audiences the film has a modest following, partly because it continues a franchise linked to WWE performers and because Michael Rooker’s presence adds a recognizable face. It’s often cited as a straightforward, serviceable B-movie entry for viewers who like tight, combat-focused thrillers.
