The Royal Game

During the 1938 rush of Nazi forces into Vienna, a Jewish-Austrian lawyer named Josef Bartok tries to flee with his wife but is seized by the Gestapo. Refusing to disclose confidential information, he is plunged into solitary confinement and subjected to months of psychological pressure. With his mind fraying, he finds a battered chess tome that becomes his anchor amid the isolation, reshaping how he thinks, recalls, and responds to interrogation. The discovery of this forgotten game gradually alters the dynamics inside the stark prison walls, turning a quiet man into someone whose strategic mind becomes his only weapon against tyranny.
