About The Secret Circle
When Cassie Blake moves to Chance Harbor to live with her grandmother after her mother's fatal house fire, she expects a small town and a fresh start. Instead she bumps into a tight group of classmates who seem more connected than ordinary friends. Strange events pile up, and Cassie learns the town hides a legacy of witchcraft. The kids are descendants of witches, and Cassie is the missing piece needed to form a new Secret Circle. As loyalties form and new powers surface, hints emerge that darker forces are at work and that the circumstances around Cassie's mother deserve closer scrutiny.
The series premiered in 2011 on The CW, created for television by Andrew Miller and adapted from L.J. Smith's novels. It stars Britt Robertson as Cassie Blake, Phoebe Tonkin as Faye Chamberlain, Thomas Dekker as Adam Conant, Shelley Hennig as Diana Meade, and Natasha Henstridge as Dawn Chamberlain. Production leaned into a moody coastal setting and teen ensemble drama.
Critical and audience response was mixed to favorable, reflected in a user vote average of 7.265 out of 10 from 358 votes. Reviewers and viewers often praised the young cast and the show's atmospheric take on supernatural teen drama, while some critics noted it followed familiar genre patterns. Recurring themes include identity and secrecy, the ethics of power, and the strain that inherited legacies can put on friendships and romance.
Though it didn't collect major industry awards, the show developed a dedicated fan community that still discusses its characters and storylines. Its blend of high school dynamics with witchcraft motifs helped it stand out among early 2010s supernatural series, and its style and relationships continue to be referenced by fans of teen fantasy television.
