About Tokyo 24th Ward
Shuta, Ran, and Koki grew up together on the artificial island known as the 24th Ward, a city built from the sea with strict rules and high-tech infrastructure. Their personalities and family lives couldn't be more different, yet they were inseparable until a traumatic event drove them apart. A year later, the three meet again at a memorial for that incident, and their reunion is shattered when all of their phones ring at once. The voice on the other end belongs to someone they believed dead, and that call forces them to make a stark decision about the island's future without revealing any secret endings.
Released in 2022, Tokyo 24th Ward was created by Vio Shimokura. The series features voices by Yuma Uchida, Kaito Ishikawa, Junya Enoki, Yui Makino, and Nanami Tomaru, and it leans into anime action and urban mystery elements.
Viewer response has been mixed to negative, reflected in a low user score of 4.0/10 from a small number of votes. Audiences praised moments of visual ambition but often criticized pacing and character development. The show keeps returning to questions about responsibility, how technology shapes power, and the costs of secrecy within a densely managed city.
Though it didn't break into mainstream anime conversation, the series prompted some online discussion about its city-scale premise and moral dilemmas. Fans and commentators highlighted certain set pieces and the show's neon urban design, sharing clips and art on social platforms; its cultural footprint remains modest rather than widespread.
The series did not gather major industry awards or high-profile nominations. Recognition has mostly come from fan discussions, episode-specific buzz, and niche commentary rather than from prize circuits or large-scale critical acclaim.
