About Tumsa Nahin Dekha: A Love Story
Tumsa Nahin Dekha: A Love Story follows Daksh Mittal, a wealthy, perpetually drunk playboy whose life of easy privilege changes the moment he spots Jiya Khan performing on the street and becomes determined to know her. Jiya makes her living as an exotic dancer while quietly caring for her younger brother, who has an intellectual disability, and she keeps much of her vulnerability hidden behind the performance. Their initial flirtation deepens into a complicated romance as both start revealing fears, loyalties, and limits. Family expectations, social status, and Daksh's own self-destructive habits create mounting pressure, pushing the couple toward difficult choices and an uncertain future without giving away how it all resolves.
Released in 2004, the film was directed by Anurag Basu and written by Subodh Chopra. It stars Emraan Hashmi and Dia Mirza, with supporting turns from Anupam Kher, Sharat Saxena and Surekha Sikri, and it leans heavily on song sequences to carry much of its storytelling.
The film's box office run was modest rather than blockbuster, finding pockets of audience interest mainly in urban multiplexes. It never dominated the season's charts, but the pairing of popular young leads and a music-rich approach helped sustain steady attention during its theatrical window.
The soundtrack and several stylized song sequences are what many viewers remember, and the film helped cement Emraan Hashmi's image as a romantic lead in early 2000s Bollywood. It gets mentioned now and then in conversations about that period's musical romances and the era's glossy song picturizations.
Critics were mixed, and audience ratings sit in the middling range, with a vote average around 6.7/10 on some listings. The movie looks at loneliness, the effect of addiction on relationships, socioeconomic divides, and the responsibilities people shoulder for family, while relying on melodramatic beats and music to underline its emotional stakes.
