Wolf Totem

In 1969, a young Beijing student named Chen Zhen is sent to live among the nomads of Inner Mongolia, where life on the steppe moves to a different rhythm. Caught between the slow pulse of traditional herding and the rising footprint of modern civilization from the south, he faces a land where wolves roam the northern plains and the line between predator and neighbor is never clear. He trains for survival, forged friendships with a local guide and with the people who guard and ride the wind-swept plains, and finds himself pulled into a tense balance between human needs and the stubborn freedom of the wild. The story follows his search for belonging in a world that tests loyalties.
