Li Ni, the emperor's overlooked grandson, has been carving out a life as a border general, enjoying relative freedom until the empire orders him to suppress an escalating rebellion. On campaign he repeatedly squares off against Cui Lin, a fiery daughter of a famed general who conceals her identity to fight as a lieutenant. Their tactical one-upmanship turns into a complicated alliance as they trade strategies and insults on the field.
