About Wrath of the Titans
Perseus has left his life of heroic battles behind and is trying to live quietly as a fisherman, caring for his young son and avoiding the gods. But those gods are weakened because humans no longer give them devotion, and the ancient Titans are beginning to break free under the monstrous Kronos. When the balance collapses, Perseus is pulled back into violence, crossing hostile terrain and facing mythic beasts to try to halt the rising threat. He wrestles with duty, a painful past, and the danger his choices pose to family and friends, while alliances among gods and mortals shift around him.
Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, the film was released in 2012 as a sequel to the 2010 Clash of the Titans. Writers Dan Mazeau, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Greg Berlanti adapted mythic material for the action picture with an international cast.
The sequel drew a sizable audience worldwide, turning a healthy profit at the global box office despite lukewarm critical response, and it proved that mythological blockbusters could still attract international viewers even when reviews were mixed during the summer season.
Visually the film pushed large-scale creature battles and storm-soaked set pieces into mainstream summer fare, and Kronos' emergence left an image many viewers remember. While not often praised for depth, it's fed interest in modernized myths and inspired similar CGI-heavy interpretations in genre cinema and gaming tie-ins and online communities.
Critics gave mixed reviews, with many praising the special effects and action choreography while criticizing thin character development and a chaotic plot. The movie keeps recurring themes about faith, the burden of legacy, and Perseus' attempts at family life versus public duty, wrapped in loud, kinetic spectacle and audience debate.
What Viewers Are Saying
People say the 3D looks solid, but the script and story are a mess with a trek through the Underworld that feels slapped in just to move the plot and a minotaur shoehorned in. Andromeda feels misused and the gods look goofy with their beards and outfits. Pacing is better than the 2010 film and Neeson and Fiennes are more effectively used, but the overall tale still trips over its own mythology.
