Beauregard Decker and Virgil Blessing head to a rodeo in Phoenix where Decker falls for Cherie, a cafe singer chasing Hollywood stardom. He pictures a life with her in Montana and wants to marry, but Cherie has her sights set on fame. A simple ride home becomes a crucible for their versions of happiness as Cherie resists a shortcut to romance and challenge to his dreams.
