About Colony
In a near future Los Angeles, an occupying force has carved the city into zones and imposed a strict regime that reshapes daily life. Will and Katie Bowman struggle to keep their family intact while dealing with checkpoints, curfews, and the shadowy apparatus that enforces order. Some neighbors accept new roles within the occupation to gain safety and privilege, others join an underground resistance and pay a heavy price. The Bowmans weigh alliances, secrets, and moral tradeoffs as they try to protect their children and hold on to what matters, while the outside power and its local proxies tighten control and test loyalties at every turn.
The series premiered in 2016 on USA Network, created by Carlton Cuse, Ryan Condal, and Wes Tooke. It’s an original TV drama, produced for cable with a serialized arc across its seasons.
It didn’t rack up major industry awards, though it attracted a dedicated fanbase and occasional festival notice. Cast performances, especially by Josh Holloway and Sarah Wayne Callies, earned praise even if the show wasn’t a big awards contender.
The show sparked conversations about collaboration, authority, and the ethics of survival under occupation. Its portrayal of occupied urban life, domestic strain, and ambiguous allies generated online debate and fan theories, and certain visuals and story beats stuck with viewers who follow dystopian dramas.
Critical and audience responses were mixed to positive, reflected in its moderate vote average. Reviewers noted strong performances and worldbuilding, while some critics found the pacing uneven. Major themes include loyalty within families, the cost of compromise, and how ordinary people respond when institutions break down.
